Airbourne – Fist Pumping Rock’n Roll in Wiesbaden

“Genuine fist-pumping, sweat soaked, highspeed Rock’n Roll!”

This slogan puts it in a nutshell. The show of the Australian newcomers was absolutely breathtaking. The very moment Joel O’Keeffe’s band entered the stage, hell broke loose, the entire audience and the band just went berserk. Joel’s trademark: bumping a can of beer to his head until it bursts while doing a guitar solo or standing on a tower of loudspeakers. Just great!

Equipped with a photo pass I took a bunch of good shots during the first three songs. Afterwards I stored my SLR equipment backstage, grabbed my little Canon G11 and jumped right into second row of the jamming audience. I’ve never experienced so many crowd surfers being carried over my head. The pushing and jumping was extreme. Sweat all over the place. And after the show everyone was sure to have experienced one of those rare occasions when band and audience form a melting pot and act as one.

Back in the 70’s somewhere in the Australian outback it must have been like this when AC/DC made their first steps on stage. Pure energy, no stopping …

Joel O'Keefe in ecstasy
